Dr. Cooper is a tenured Associate Professor with a BS degree in Health Informatics
and Information Management (Formerly Health Information Management), an MS degree
in Healthcare Administration, and a PhD degree in Educational Leadership from Florida
A&M University. She also received the State of Florida Certified Public Manager designation
from the Florida Center for Public Management at Florida State University. Annually,
for over a decade, Dr. Cooper co-authored the Health Law Chapter for the Professional
Review Guide for the RHIA and RHIT examinations. In addition, she has published in
the Journal of AHIMA, Journal of Health Care Finance, Florida Public Health Review,
and the NSAH Journal. Dr. Cooper has over 20 years of experience in teaching adults
and more than 16 years of experience in academia, teaching foundations in health information
management, legal aspects of health information, quality management in health services,
professional development, and coordinating professional practice/clinical experiences
and internships. She has developed policies and procedures for implementing HIPAA
requirements, developed training modules, and designed HIPAA assessments and quality
improvement tools. She is an active member of the regional, state, and national Health
Information Management Associations. She received the Florida Health Information Management
Association’s (FHIMA) 2017 Educator of the Year Award. Dr. Cooper is the Director
of the Division of Health Informatics and Information Management and has served in
this capacity since 2018. She also successfully led the Division through its second
re-accreditation process in 2021-2022, providing the program with the maximum term
of continued accreditation.

- Dr. Cooper's research interests include training health professionals on increasing
effective patient-provider communication by adopting health literacy strategies, perceptions
on medical marijuana, and telehealth and telemedicine.
